Meet the Nova Luna Family

  • Sarah DiMatteo

Studio Steward/Trauma Informed Yoga & Mat Pilates Teacher/Board Certified Health Coach

Sarah discovered yoga in her living room using a streaming service. Having spent a lifetime struggling with weight, health, and body image issues, she never had the courage to step foot in a studio. Through her meditation and personal practice, a love for the deep inner connection yoga offers was immediately born.

While studying to become a Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, she realized clients who shared her fear of joining group classes could benefit from knowing about the beautiful healing a yoga practice can bring. This brought her to Kula Yoga Shala in Jupiter, where she completed 200 hr yoga teacher training. She went on to discover the powerful benefits of Reiki, becoming certified as a Level I & II practitioner. Later, she trained to teach Beginner and Intermediate Core Mat Power Pilates. She’s currently pursuing advanced Mat Pilates Teacher Training and completing 500 hr Yoga Teacher Training.

It was a long held dream to work in the world of Healing Arts so when the opportunity came to step into the big shoes of the owner of Nova Luna, it felt like the Universe sending a strong message. After 25 years in corporate business leadership, she is now fully dedicated to supporting and growing the amazing community at Nova Luna and looking forward to learning from the talented team here.

When she is not working, she can be found enjoying the antics of five sons, a husband, two dogs, and a cat she adores or volunteering as a founding board member of Maddie’s Fight Foundation, a family run non-profit that helps children battling cancer.

  • Carlyn Burczyk

    Hatha and Sacred Sunday Instructor

In the summer of 2008 Carlyn caught the travel bug and ventured off with a friend to Europe and was stranded in an Amsterdam hotel lobby with a lost luggage notice from the airline and just enough underwear to get her through the rest of that day. This would be the trip that somehow catapulted her to a very interestingly windy path and leading her to find it entertaining to jump out of perfectly good air planes, later settling into movement and meditation. Starting out with hot yoga and then moving on to other various classes she came to fall in love with the movement and quiet inward joy she felt from taking class. After her first training Carlyn had no interest in teaching. She was only focused on knowledge and a deeper experience for herself. However, upon teaching her first class, Carlyn gained a new love for sharing yoga and then jumped at any chance to teach a class. Later she found her love of healing when she explored reiki and SPA Yoga. Being able to heal through touch has always been such a unique experience and the more she learns, the more she loves to share. Now incorporating various techniques into her classes, workshops as well as healing treatments, Carlyn has found her own special style.

  • Taylor Riley

    Qigong and Yoga Teacher

Taylor is a 200 HR RYT and Certified Qigong Instructor. He started his yoga journey in 2014 to increase flexibility as a beginning martial artist and quickly fell in love with yoga. He says: Yoga was always much more than stretching for me. It allowed me to obtain health and to have a better life; flourishing in my business and personal life. Yoga has been a practice of physical health, stress relief, greater focus, discipline and self-development and helped me become a better martial artist and person. I continue to train in martial arts and strength training.

Along my journey I was introduced to Qi Gong. Qi Gong is translated as “Energy Work”. I enjoyed the profound effects of this practice almost immediately and added it to my routine. After practicing I felt younger and energized with a sense of peace, similar to yoga but unique. I furthered my studies by practicing outside of class at home, taking workshops, trainings, studying medical qigong and the 5 elements. I have trained with the Venerable Shi Guolin and Shifu Yan Lei, both Shaolin Monks.

Carmen is an Internal Family Systems Therapy practitioner, life coach and trauma-informed yoga teacher with a passion for interweaving possibility and potential into her teachings. Her spirit of possibility exudes through her voice and energy.

I fell in love with learning challenging poses and I fell in love with the inner knowing that my practice most days is less about the challenging pose and more about honoring my body, connecting to my breath and facing the challenges in my mind. I fell in love with savasana (that end of practice awesomeness where you lay on your back and melt into pure bliss) and integrating yogic principles in my life on and off the mat."

Yoga has empowered her in the most unexpected ways and she knew she wanted to share that with others. In 2019, she completed 200 hour yoga teacher training and began teaching in January 2020. • Sonia Carswell

    Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga

Initially I started practicing Dahn yoga, focusing on enhancing the mind body connection. In 2016 I expanded my practice to include traditional yoga. After falling deeper in love with the practice, I decided to start working on my RYT200 training in January 2018. I particularly enjoy connecting one on one with my students to provide an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, staying true to my mind body connection roots.

I focus on connecting the breath with movements in a relaxed, calm environment. I try to be aware of the needs of each student to ensure that my classes benefit every student. I will often incorporate meditation in my classes to help connect the mind and body. I am a very patient teacher who provides a welcoming environment for all students. After my classes students often feel relaxed but energized.

  • Julie Allen

    Chair Yoga

Julie is a native Floridian with a love for natural spaces, a passion for serving the community, and having found her true calling as an artist, yoga teacher and massage therapist.

In her words, “I’ve been an artist from a very young age; encouraged by my incredibly talented mother, I was always doodling, drawing, painting and creating; I found arts and crafts to be a cathartic activity that continues to be therapeutic and necessary. I like to pour my heart and energy into useful, beautiful gifts and incorporate up-cycled items when possible and appropriate. Recently, I’ve been creating items like: watercolor mandala paintings, warming neck wraps, eye pillows, cat toys, dioramas, etc.

My yoga practice started in the 90’s with a well placed article in a teen magazine. I maintained a steady, consistent, home practice and in 2010, I established a studio practice. In 2013, completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program. After graduating, I dove into teaching Yoga on Water at Blueline Surf and Paddle, where I maintained a weekly class with their outfit for eight years. In my classes, you can expect a nurturing, sacred space with fluid, breath synced, calisthenic movement arriving at a deep, supportive savasana.

In 2007, I attended the Academy of Palm Beach in Lake Worth, Florida, completing a 610 hour Massage Therapy training. Shortly after, I attended the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy’s 1020 hour training in Albany, NY. I struggled to start a successful business in upstate New York and moved back to Florida in 2010. In 2011, I began working as a Massage Therapist at the Jupiter Beach Resort in Jupiter, FL. In 2013 — just before YTT— I began building my own business as a massage therapist and have had great success in establishing and running an independent massage therapy practice. I specialize in sports massage, repetitive motion injuries, foot massages, shiatsu/Thai massage, deep tissue massage, and helping my clients find comfort and ease in the body

My purpose is to bring the healing energy of the elements to friends, clients and the community through hands on healing treatment, gentle nurturing yoga classes, and lovingly created items.”

  • Dale Johnson

    Hatha/Yin Yoga Teacher (Sub Teacher)

Dale Johnson was embraced by Yoga shortly after a second back surgery in 2007 at the age of 52. Completing a 40HR Yin Yoga YTT in 2011 and a 200HR Hatha Yoga YTT in 2012, Yoga and all that entails, has subsequently become the way that saved him. In his quest for fitness and health, he found that the principles of Yoga Asana: alignment, stillness, concentration, breath, and lightness would serve well as the foundation for functional mobility training. To move freely and without pain as we age requires work and commitment. The alternative requires nothing, but the outcome is loss of movement, independence, and quality of life. My practice is a combination of Hatha Yoga inspired by Gabriel Halpern (Iyengar Yoga) and Yin Yoga as taught to me by Paul Grilley. Together they give me a unique perspective in the ‘yoking or union’ of form, the ‘Vehicle of the Soul’ and spirit, the ‘Spark of Divinity’. Walk with me on this journey...

  • Luc Nguyen

    Warm Cardi-Yoga Kick Boxing

Luc has been a fitness enthusiast his whole life and began training in martial arts as a youngster. When he was 15 he discovered Muay Thai and his passion was ignited. Known in Thailand as The Art of Eight Limbs, Muay Thai blends kicking and boxing, and incorporates knees and elbows. After years of developing a personal practice and competing, Luc now teaches Muay Thai to both children and adults at King’s Muay Thai gym in Stuart and coaches ring-side during competitions and title fights. He also provides private training for athletes as well those who are new to Muay Thai, interested in learning self-defense, or who wish to improve their overall fitness level.

Developing a strong Muay Thai practice has required years of dedication, practice and tuning into his mind, body, and spirit. As part of this endeavor, Luc also developed an interest in and a love of yoga. He sees many parallels between the two practices, though they may not at once be obvious. He loves that both offer the opportunity to tune into the mind/body connection, to focus on mental peace and self-care, and to seek balance as you align your actions with your highest purpose. He recently completed his 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Certification.
